Pentimenti - an alteration in a painting, evidenced by traces of previous work, showing that the artist has changed their mind as to the composition during the process of painting.Italian for repentance, from the verb pentirsi, meaning to repent.

Artists over the centuries have utilised real and imagined imagery to make visible what is only seen in the mind's eye.  Ted May's paintings develop in this way - organic forms evolve as thoughts shift, often the result of the artist painting and repainting on the same canvas.  His works are mixture of  images recently seen and experiences recalled from more than 50 years ago.......
